Howdy, Hoosiers. The time has come again for yet another update on the campaign, where I tell you what I’ve been up to, keep you up-to-date on the campaign, and give you a glimpse of what’s planned for the immediate future. My apologies for getting this update out later than the usual Day Late update, but we had some additional factors to contend with this week that required my attention.

Last week, I posted my healthcare reform proposal and its short-form video introduction. I’m happy to say that it has been fairly well received. I know that people are ready for me to get back to working on the anti-corruption bill, though, which is the centerpiece of my campaign. To be honest, I don’t blame them. I’ve been itching to work on it myself. You’ll be happy to know that I only set it to the side temporarily to focus on the signature drive, which is going quite well.

As of the writing of this update, I am sitting at about 360 signatures. I forget the exact number, but I believe my ballot access threshold is somewhere between 430-450 (I’ll confirm with the Indiana Election Division next week to be sure). My goal will be to hit 500 by the end of the weekend but suffice to say we are in the home stretch.

I do want to apologize for having to cancel the Round Table Event this last week. Our family has entered into the final stages of adoption for my niece, and the court proceedings on Wednesday lasted longer than I expected them to. I can’t get into much more details than that, I’m afraid. There are a lot of confidentiality rules when it comes to situations like this, and I don’t want to jeopardize the process.

I am excited to announce that we received word this last week that the people of Montezuma have officially been approved for their charter school. I know this is a great weight off the shoulders of the community, who has been fighting for months to save their elementary school, and I hope they know how proud of them I am. Their commitment to their small town has been an inspiration to me, and their dedication to the education of their children should be an inspiration to us all.

I’m also happy to announce that a new member of the team has joined the campaign, but I’m going to let her introduce herself in the days to come.

Today, I’ve got some things to catch up on this morning, but I will be hitting the neighborhoods hard this afternoon to hit that 500 goal.

A quick look ahead: Same as last week, I’m afraid. We still have a lot of unpacking to do. The signatures will continue to be the top priority until we get confirmation of ballot access. I know we have more court coming up. We should have a more interesting look ahead next week, though.

Until next time, District 23, have yourselves a better-than-great weekend. I’ll be thinking about ya.

Genuinely,
Joshua Brant
